Tirunelveli special irupuli kuzhambu

Hi friends,
Today I am sharing a special recipe that is close to my heart. Every year for my school vacations I used to go to my paternal grandparents house in tirunelveli. Though I spent very less time with them, the things my meena patti cooked for us I will not forget. One such thing is irupuli kuzhambu. Her kuzhambu was so yummy that I still remember its taste. Hope i do justice to the recipe.
INGREDIENTS:-
  • To roast and grind:-
  • methi seeds :-1 tsp
  • chillies :-7
  • t.dal :-1 ½ tbsp
  • coconut :-½ coconut
In a tsp of gingelly oil roast all the given items well .
For the kuzhambu:-
  • curd :-1 cup
  • tamarind :- amla size soaked in water
  • salt :-to taste
  • ladies finger :- 1 cup cut into big pieces
  • mustard seeds :- 1tsp
  • curry leaves :- few
Heat a tbsp of gingelly /coconut oil and fry the ladies finger pieces till its dark brown.
Once its fried add tamarind water and salt. Boil it till there is no raw smell. Grind the roasted ingredients with the curd into a smooth paste. once tamarind boils add the ground paste. After adding the paste wait till it comes to a boil. As soon as it boils for a minute ,switch the gas off. It should not boil for long. In a kadai add tsp of oil and temper mustard seeds and curry leaves and pour in the kuzhambu.
Yummy irupuli kuzhambu is ready.
Irupuli here means two different variations of sour taste and not twice the sour taste. You can also make with any vegetable. Especially poosanikkai is very good.
A suitable accompaniment for this is paruppu usili.
This particular day I made avarakkai paruppu usili.
Hope you all try this.

Coming soon are some summer drinks to quench our thirst. Some traditional and some modern.
