Beans paruppu usili

 Hi friends,

I am back . Today I am sharing another traditional recipe - paruppu usili.

I think all of us would have had it many times. There is nothing new about it. But still there are some important things to be noted.

Paruppu usili literally means crumbled dal. Some people use only Channa dal in it. Some even use only toor dal. But according to me a mixture of the both tastes good.

A mixture of both the dal gives it a toasty taste as well as makes it soft.

Ingredients

Toor dal -1/2 cup

Channa dal -1/2 cup

Chillies -4

Salt

Hing

Chopped green beans -1 cup

I usually make dal and vegetables in equal quantity.

First soak the two dals in water for 1 hour.

In the meantime, boil the chopped green beans till it is just cooked.

Grind soaked dal with chillies, salt and hing into a coarse paste. I also add little curry leaves while grinding.

In a kadai, add oil. Temper mustard seeds , urad dal ,hing and curry leaves . Now add the ground paste and mix in the kadai. Keep the flame at low and try to crumble the dal.

Cook in low flame till dal crumbles . Now add cooked beans and mix it well.

Cook for another 1 or 2 minutes.

Switch off and serve it with rice and more kuzhambu.

I served it with irupuli more kuzhambu .

We can make this with any green vegetable like avarakkai, kothavarangai. I have also eaten cabbage , capsicum and broccoli paruppu usili.

But I prefer beans and vazhaipoo  (plantain flower)  paruppu usili.

All the vegetables can be added in the same way like beans.

Feel free to alter the ratio of dals according to your liking.

Please try and let me know.
