100th blog - vazhakkai podi

 Hi friends,

I am very happy to say I have reached my 100th blog. I started this blog on April 27th 2020. This blog was started just for a hobby of mine. It still is and I am very satisfied that I have finally started doing two things which I love. I have been interested in cooking since school days. So sharing my favourite recipes in my own words along with some memories is fulfilling. It is my duty to thank all of you, who had the patience to read my recipes and leave comments on the blog.

I always made lots of sabji for chapati with various vegetables . I thought I was an expert as everything tasted good. Even now, many people including myself feel that if we make restaurant style food at home, we know everything.  But ,that is not the case.

I think of our old people, who cooked tasty things with very little ingredients. Some recipes require very less ingredients.

This blog writing experience made me humble as this proved that I knew only very little of our traditions.

In the coming weeks, I am planning to share some of the old traditional recipes which are not made a lot. So, you can expect some forgotten recipes in my blog.

Today,I am just sharing some pictures of the food that I made today.

I celebrated 100th blog with a butterscotch cake pop.

Today's breakfast was dosa with a simple sambar.

Lunch menu was puli itta keerai and vazhakkai podi with hot rice and curd.

I made arai keerai like a sambar. Will share the recipe soon.

Vazhakkai podi

Cooked raw banana is mashed with roasted and ground spices. It is spicy.

The following spices are roasted in a tsp of Oil, 2 tsp Toor Dal, 2 tsp Urad Dal, 3 Red Chili, ½ tsp Mustard seeds and a Pinch of hing. The roasted spices are then ground into a coarse powder.

In a kadai, add a tsp of ghee, and temper mustard seeds and urad dal and mix both crumbled raw banana and the coarse powder.
Mix it well.

You can also mix this with rice. It tastes yummy with ghee.

Please stay tuned for more traditional and homely food.
