Day 27- Kerala lunch
Hi friends,
Today it is our neighbouring state Kerala. Kerala is God's own country in the true sense. We have been to many places in kerala as part of our vacations. Sometimes coming back home leaving such beautiful places was a task.
Kerala cuisine offers both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. Rice is the staple meal. Coconut oil is used. Coconut, chillies, curry leaves, pepper are used a lot in cooking. It is also known as land of spices. Since we are from Tirunelveli, many of our dishes are influenced by kerala like cooking . Some of the dishes which I have made today are regular at our home since my childhood.
Today I made
This is a fairly new recipe to me. Ash gourd and boiled karamani are cooked in coconut milk and topped with raw coconut oil. It is a thin curry that is had with matta rice in sadya.
This is a curry made with vegetables in a curd, coconut ,chilli gravy. I used raw banana and yam for this . If we make it thicker like kootu ,its called kurukku kalan.
This is a regular at our home. Yam is cooked with raw banana with pepper powder. Coconut and jeera paste is added to it. The main attraction to this is the tempering, where grated coconut is roasted to a light brown colour and added to the curry.
This is also one of my favorites from a very small age. This is vegetables and tur dal cooked with coconut, chilly, jeera paste. We always used keerai for this. Today I used arai keerai for this. Mixing this with hot rice and eating it is heavenly.
All these dishes are tempered with coconut oil . I also have made everything no onion, no garlic. Today being aadi first day, I also made payasam. We all loved it.
