Day 22 - Goa
Hi friends,
Today we have a mini lunch thali from Goa. Goa is a dream come true destination. Goa is visited by many international and local tourists for its white sand beaches ,night life ,places of worship and architecture. It was a state of Portuguese empire. So we can see influences still there . We had once gone to Goa for vacation. Sitting at the beach, looking at waves , getting relaxed, that is for me the best vacation spot.
Goan cuisine has lots of rice and fish dishes. They use a lot of coconut and coconut oil in their cooking. Along with this chillies and vinegar are used. Google Goa you will get Xacuti, vindaloo , Bebinka. I didn't want to do vegetarian versions of their famous items.
Then I found out that saraswat konkan cuisine is very similar to south Indian style of cuisine. So I decided to make those dishes today.
Today I made
It is very very similar to the araichu vitta sambar that we usually make. We use coconut, roasted spices and tamarind in this recipe.
This is a dry curry with onion, temperings ,green beans, chilli powder. Finally grated coconut is added.
This is a mildly sweet and spicy curry. Raw banana is cooked with channa dal ,coconut and chillies. Jaggery is added to give sweetness.
Tur dal is cooked with salt and spices and tempered.
All these dishes are suitable with hot rice and ghee.
We enjoyed our Saturday lunch.
