Day 4 - Sikkim snacks

Hi friends,
Yesterday had a great Uttarakhand meal. Potato dish and til ke chutney was liked by everyone. Now comes the toughest part. North eastern states. That is because I know nothing about it. So I decided to go with these states first as it will be easy for me to concentrate now than later.

Day 4 Sikkim
As we all know , sikkimese cuisine is delicious and fresh but it's not hugely spicy. Due to the chilly climate and high altitude of this region, fermented foods and drinks are popular in sikkim. Their food is influenced by neighbouring countries like Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal.
If we google Sikkim, we will see Momos and Thukpa immediately.
For a change I made these at snack time today.

Today I made

Momos
Momos is found everywhere now. I made the stuffing with onion, carrot and paneer. I also made a tomato chilli chutney as a dip for these Momos.

Thukpa
Thukpa or gyathuk ,another well known dish of sikkim. It is a noodle soup with meat or vegetables.  I made these with carrots, onion, cucumbers and radishes. I also made the noodles at home. This soup has garam masala flavour to it with garlic and ginger.

Another staple in sikkim is rice. They eat dal, bhat and tarkari as breakfast, Momos for snacks and thukpa for dinner.

I also tried their squash recipe.

It is a dry curry made with chayote/ chow chow with a little bit of spices and ginger and garlic.
Sel roti
Sel roti is a traditional ring shaped sweet snack with rice batter. I made mini shapes out of it. It was crispy and sweet. Getting ring shape was a little tricky.

Momo is not new to us. But we all loved the Thukpa so much. It will definitely be a part of my soup recipe box.

Please try these recipes.
