Day 11 - West Bengal Breakfast
Hi friends ,
I am here today with west Bengal. We have been to Kolkata once for a short trip. We loved Kolkata as it was full of friendly people, tasty food and special places.
My husband's friends had planned a good itinerary when we had gone there. Other than the usual places, there were some offbeat places which we went. I especially loved Subash Chandra Bose's house . It is a museum with some of his possessions. The steps he had taken to escape is marked there. We will definitely have goosebumps when we visit this place.I also loved Princep Ghat. It had many food stalls there. We had gone there during sunset and it was a treat to watch. Loved Kolkata to the maximum.
Where to start. One of the best places to have both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. First thing that comes to our mind is sweets. Roshgulla, Mishti doi ,shondesh, etc. I don't understand bengali but you can sit and listen to it all day.
I didn't know where to start as there are many many dishes that are really good. So I came to a decision that now I will make breakfast which we had everyday when we were there. Later will do lunch and dinner specials.
Today I made
Luchi is a maida poori. It is white and puffy.
It is made with baby potatoes. I cooked it with normal potatoes. These are simmered with tomato paste ,ginger, garlic, coriander powder, jeera powder, whole spices . It is of semi dry consistency. It is finger licking good.
Luchi and aloo is a perfect combo. We also had cholar dal for luchi .
Cholar dal is channa dal. Channa dal is cooked with cumin powder, turmeric powder, ginger. Once cooked ,tempering of chillies and whole spices are added to the dal. Coconut pieces lightly fried in ghee is also added to the dal. It is a no onion ,no garlic recipe. Here the channa dal is perfectly cooked but not mushy.
We had a lovely breakfast today. Please try this combo as it is a comforting meal.
Wow yummy
